Deep tissue massage or maybe not?

Recently I have been thinking about a deep tissue massage.  A lot of people ask for a deep tissue massage so I have been wondering why and who told them about deep tissue? Lol...  A good massage therapist though will use many different styles and techniques during a massage.  I would think it's better to look for a massage therapist who is intuitive and can do miracle with her hands.  One who works with a heart rather than knowledge.  At the end you will feel better, more relaxed in body and spirit and fill like that was the best thing you ever done for yourself.

The more I study massage and movement the more I realize that it's not about deep tissue at all, it's about quality touch and conscious movements. It's about a massage therapist being light on her feet, having correct posture, relaxed body and clear mind.  Staying present with the client is probably one of the most important parts of a massage.  Being present to how it feels under the fingers...like hot, cold, hardened, lumpy, dry, swollen...is important for a good treatment.  For a client being relaxed, totally letting go of everything and surrendering (to the table to hold you for an hour or two) is the key to get the most benefits from a massage.  It's not that easy to do really.

Deep tissue can mean many things.... but for most it means hard pressure throughout the whole massage. Sometimes massaging hard can injure lymph nodes and fascia.  The more I study lymph the more I try to avoid "deep" massage especially in certain areas of the body.  As I am becoming more conscious I am a little better at listening and paying attention to not cause pain that is not "hurts so good" kind of a pain.  We should keep in mind that there is a medical massage and trigger point massage where a certain pressure is applied in one specific area and it can hurt too.  It's totally different from deep tissue though.  It's more of a gradual process, starting by warming up the body and then applying pressure, deeper as we go.

So what is my style of massage then?  It's mostly slow and firm but yet with gentle, loving touch.  I work with my heart and use many different styles and pressures. I also love hearing from my clients what they want out of their treatment and if something is not satisfying I want to hear it.   I work hard to make you feel good, refreshed, relaxed, comfortable, and worth your time and money.  I consider myself a student and your body is my teacher.  Without you, I can't do what I love doing:  body work and bringing healing.  New teachers are always needed so please come see me and enjoy your massage that possibly could change your body and life for the better. : )

Why do we work?

I have been thinking about work and money and it's affect on our health.  I have noticed that people I meet are tired working and look forward for weekends, vacation and retirement. Which creates a high level of stress. Sometimes we think all we need is a long vacation but even that makes us tired and exhausted and not wanting to go back to work. Maybe work shouldn't be work but rather something we do to create more growth to benefit ourselves and others.  Something that gives results and satisfaction seeing what we have done to create a better future.

I was thinking if we love what we do why would we want to have an escape from it? On the other hand as we grow older our energy supply diminishes and we grow tired. That's a very normal thing in life.  But looking toward vacation and retirement as a permanent fix from our misery is not a normal thing.

There is something hidden within in us that needs to get free.  I was thinking about successful people how they got where they got.  Most don't become famous and successful over night.  Many hours and nights are spent doing what they love doing not because of money but because their job is part of who they are .  It seems to me that those who love what they do are winners in a certain way.

Some of my best friends and mentors are in their late 70's, 80's, and even 90's.  And they are not just some regular old people they are the people who continue doing what they love. Be it teaching, or reading, or researching, or creating new products or writing books.  Why are these few souls are not interested in watching TV or playing golf? It's because their life is worth living and it's bigger then them.

Each person is unique in their own way we all do things differently and we have unique gifts and talents.  If you can find what you are good at and start working at it day and night you can build a happy future. When we do what we love and make money doing it, it brings us fulfillment and joy and health.  Every morning you will wake up with a spring in your feet and ready to do your work.  Context also plays a huge role.  We can be housewives or dads and within a right context raising children and cleaning house can be a great joy.

We have to look deep within ourselves to find that one thing we are great at. It's really not the end goal but the process that's exciting.  I see that keeping focus on each day, hour brings more fulfillment than end goal.  So to me thinking about today and how I can grow myself today, and what I can do today, and how I can bring healing to people today is much more fulfilling than seeing myself somewhere in the future.

I realize that dreaming about a future won't get us there, we have to use all we got to get where we want to be, by doing what we are best at.  Lets make life worth living for.  :-)

Big results with little effort?

“Try a thing you haven’t done three times.  Once, to get over the fear of doing it.  Twice, to learn how to do it. And a third time, to figure out whether you like it or not.”  Virgil Thomson

Today, I was pondering about how people want something big and extraordinary to happen in their life without putting much effort to get there.  Many people just want to be able to lay on the couch and get the check in the mail and let things happen for them.  They would like their business to grow without investing money, strength and resources.  People want their kids to become amazing without them investing anything in them and not letting them be kids and then adults just the way they are.  To get to the top of the mountain we have to climb it one step at a time.  To fly an airplane we have to spend hours to learn how to fly it.  Everything takes time, money and energy. The question is how hard are you willing to work to get where you want to get? It's not necessary physical work it's also a work of an inner man.

From Roy Williams book "Secret Formulas of the Wizard of Ads".

"The only fool greater than the one who expects big results from small changes is the fool who believes big changes can be accomplished without risk.  Opportunity and security are inversely proportionate: as one goes up, the other goes down.  It's a fundamental law of the universe.

In his video Paradigm Pioneers, Joel Barker tells a story about two pivotal groups, the pioneers and the settlers, and the roles they played in America's westward expansion.  As Joel tells it, the pioneers were the ones who charged off into unknown wilderness and blazed new trails for the settlers who would later follow. The settlers, being somewhat risk averse, would sit and wait in the relative security of the towns along the frontier, occasionally sending a message down the trail asking, "Is it safe out there?" Finally, the response would arrive from the pioneers: "Yes, it's great! Come and join us."  In today's business world, however, when the settlers ask the pioneers, "Have you proven the idea will work? Is it safe out there?" The pioneers are answering, "Yes, it's wonderful, but there's nothing left for you!"

Do you have the courage to be a pioneer, or will you live your life as a settler?

Missinformed

In this world of information it is so easy to get confused and get lost.  I am often asked these questions:  Who do you believe?  Which diet do you follow?  What do you buy? What do you eat? Where do you shop?  Since we've been controlled and manipulated since birth most of us don't even know where to begin.  We have forgotten or never even listened to our body and soul.  I like to read books about people or tribes that had no government, lived by being guided from within.  They knew what plants were medicinal, what food was good for them to eat, how to make clothes and so on.  It's fascinating because they didn't have books or computers but the knowledge was passed on mouth to mouth, or learned by experimenting with things.  What happen now.  Everything is in the book and in the computer and comes from a guru's mouth.  We don't think, we don't know how to listen to our bodies and our soul, we don't know what to do if we are not told.  Basically all we do and say comes from our mind or the mind of someone we are listening to.  That is why we ask questions and can't find answers.  That is why we are miserable and we are stuck in one view and don't see anything else.

There are hundreds of diets and hundreds of health gurus tell you what to eat and how to live and dress. If you follow them like a sheep, then you'll do and live exactly how they will tell you and you'll be miserable or if it does suit you you'll be happy because you live like someone you like.  I used to be one of those people.  My feelings were numbed, my thinking didn't exist.  I was afraid to make a wrong move, to do a mistake.  Not until I freed my self from everything I know and began to feel and listen and learn my way out.  When I began to listen to my soul, my body, my intuition, sorting through my feelings, learning through failure did I began to see what life is really about.

You are a wonderful being created in a unique way different from everybody else.  Things that will work for someone else might not work for you.  Raw food diet is so popular now days.  Raw is the only way.  Drink juices and smoothies and you'll be forever young. Then you see some of those people die before 60.  What happened to them we ask? See there is no same diet for everybody.  Raw food now days is so toxic that we can't even eat it raw.  It's grown in a poor soil, contaminated with feces and bacteria so it might be better to cook some of your veggies especially if you bought them at the store.  I remember few years ago reading an article that someone tested triple washed salads and they had more feces then your toilet seat.  The question is what are they washing it with?  Sewer water?  You have to use your logic here.  If you have a garden or know someone that does then buy from them fresh veggies and eat it.

If you study history you'll see that people ate in season.  Spring time people ate fresh greens, peas, kale, broccoli.  Summer: watermelons, berries, melons, cucumbers, tomatoes...  Fall - fall veggies and fruit.  In the winter people ate, dried, canned and warm foods like soups and steamed veggies. It's just meant it to be like that by nature.

Your body knows what it needs.  Do you know how to listen to it?  After you eat what do you feel is going on inside? How do you feel?  Even before your food digests your body will already react.  It's not a rocket science.  We are so not in tune with ourselves that we live like robots.  We only eat what we eat because we are told so, or we saw it on the TV.

Learn to listen, to feel, to grow in knowledge and wisdom and experiment with foods, herbs, environment, clothes you were, movies you watch, music you listen.  These are all things that can change your health.
